Free Access and Offers for Labor Day Weekend

Free Access to AncestryDNA Shared Matches Tool

Now through September 3rd, if you have a current Ancestry Membership and have taken an AncestryDNA test, you can try out Ancestry’s Pro Tools Shared Matches feature. Here’s how to access it.

  • Go to your DNA Results Summary and click View DNA Matches.
  • Click one of your DNA matches and then click Shared Matches in the lower right.
  • The matches you share with the DNA match you clicked on will appear in a new list.
If you like what you see, Ancestry is offering 50% off a 6-month subscription to their Pro Tools for only $30.

Ancestry Pro Tools requires an active Ancestry family history membership (i.e., access to paid records, etc.).

Pro Tools provides access to advanced DNA and family history tools, including:

  • Tree checker: Find potential duplicates and possible errors in your tree.
  • Smart filters: Search, group, and sort people in your tree using key details beyond names.
  • Charts & reports: Create and share detailed family histories.
  • Tree mapper: See where people in your tree lived in relation to one another.
  • Tree insights: Discover familial trends and see patterns in your tree.
  • Enhanced shared matches: See how much DNA your matches share and their predicted relationships to each other. (A separate DNA kit purchase is required to access this feature.)

Thank you Thomas MacEntee for sharing these bargains!

Learn About the Ships Your Ancestors Traveled On

Learning about the hundreds of thousands of ships that are mentioned in books, websites, and elsewhere, is difficult. ShipIndex.org is a vessel research database that makes this research easy and possible.

Guest users have free access to over 150,000 citations from 74 resources. Free-account users can track specific ships and receive email notifications when citations for a ship change. Subscription members get access to the full database with 3,863,144 citations to ships in 1,218 resources.

For the first time ever ShipIndex.org is offering free access to their entire database, normally reserved for subscribers, over Labor Day weekend, commencing on Saturday, August 31st through Monday, September 2nd.

Sign up for their newsletter here to receive a special discount code after the weekend has ended. You can register here for a free live webinar over Zoom on Friday, September 6, about using ShipIndex.org and doing maritime history research online.
