A lineage society is a select group of individuals who can prove a direct link to a specific ancestor from a certain historic era, location, or event. For generations, family historians have completed the necessary pedigrees and collected proof to join these societies. Their work can be a hidden resource for your family history research.

Santa Barbara Colony - Society for lineal descendants of the Mayflower Pilgrims. Committed to genealogical research and education.

Colonial Dames - California State Society

A group of women who are lineal descendants of an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in one of the Original Colonies in the geographical area of the present U.S. The California Society currently has 15 Chapters with 375 members. The Santa Barbara chapter partners with Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation.

United Daughters of the Confederacy

Women who are descendants of military and civilians who were involved with the southern perspective of the War Between the States, also called the American Civil War. Members are not only interested in genealogy, but also in the historical times in which their ancestors lived.

Los Californianos

Descendants of early Hispanic settlers (Californios or Californianos) of Alta California who preserve the Hispanic heritage (history, music, culture, infrastructure, etc.) of Alta California and help other descendants compile their Hispanic genealogy.

California Pioneers Certificate

This unique program for SBCGS members is in partnership with the San Diego Genealogical Society. It honors pioneers of the State of California who helped shape its future by offering ancestral recognition certificates. From early pioneers who settled in California before statehood, to those who experienced some of the state’s historical events, each has contributed to its historical legacy.
