Lineage Societies

To join a Lineage Society, one must provide evidence to prove their direct link to a specific ancestor. This work can be very helpful for your family research.

Federal Land Records

General Land Office/Bureau of Land Management Land Patent records. Searchable by surname, county, or specific location.

Nationwide Gravesite Locator

Search for burial locations of veterans and their family members buried in VA National Cemeteries, state veterans’ cemeteries, and various other cemeteries; and for veterans buried in private cemeteries when the grave is marked with a government grave marker.

National Archives

Explore census data, immigration reports, land records and more.

Los Angeles Family Search Library

A branch of the Family History Library System of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Online search of the content of books, microfilm, microfiche, and maps; live one-on-one help via Zoom; and much more.

Early California Population Project

Maintained by the Huntington Library, it focuses on California’s missions, with information from registers and records (baptism, marriage, burial) pre-1850.

Internet Archive

Internet Archive is a non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites, and more. Search for “genealogy.”

Linkpendium

Online resource directory about families worldwide and genealogically relevant information about U.S. states and counties. Covers both free and subscription sites, with emphasis on free resources provided by libraries, other government agencies, genealogical and historical societies, and individuals.

Society of Hispanic Historical and Ancestral Research

Non-profit, all-volunteer organization, founded in 1986, with the goal of helping Hispanics/Latinos research their family history.
