At the discovery of a deceased person, California law now gives the Chief Medical Examiner the authority to conduct Coroner’s Inquests to answer questions surrounding the circumstances of a death which may provide valuable information in determining the time, cause, and manner of death. The County Coroner is assigned to investigate the death and convenes a jury. The jurors call for witnesses’ testimony. A final report with testimonials is filed with the County Superior Court.
