Alex Bertino, born in 1875, and his brother Antonio, born in 1870, came from Rivarolo Canavese, Italy. 
On his WWI Draft Registration Card, and in the 1930 census, Alex is listed as a stonemason in Santa Barbara. In the 1940 census, at age 65, he is listed as living in Santa Barbara with his wife Angela (nee Bertuso) and working as a Laborer with the City Street Department. Angela was a bank teller. 
Brother Antonio was also a stone mason, and in 1920 he lived with his wife Magdalena, and their children Joseph, John, and Domenica. Son John was a social welfare worker for the County in 1940, and lived with wife Mary and daughter Kathryn.
